Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTIONS
Responsible for safe and timely pickup, delivery, and transport of all assigned clients.
 
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
--          Assists clients on and off the bus and ensures that proper safety restraints are used
--          Provides supervision of clients while in transport
--          Obeys all traffic regulations
--          Demonstrates knowledge of transportation routes and location of emergency services along the route area
--          Maintains open lines of communication with the Program while on route
--          Maintains accurate rider attendance information
--          Maintains accurate vehicle mileage, route mileage, and maintenance logs
--          Performs thorough DOT pre-trip inspection prior to driving a route 
--          Maintains vehicle fluid levels and keeps vehicle clean
--          Reports all scheduled and unscheduled vehicle maintenance needs to the Program Supervisor
--          Reports all incidents immediately to the Program Director
--          Communicates in a courteous and positive manner with all clients, parents / care providers, funders and the community.
--          Other related duties as assigned
 
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
--          21 years or older
--          Valid California Commercial Driver License w/passenger endorsement
--          Current Medical Card Certificate
--          VDDP Certification through CHP within 30 days of hire
--          Acceptable driving record
--          CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire
--          Prior experience in transport service
--          Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities desirable
--          High school diploma
 
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
--          Good physical health, vision and hearing
--          Ability to drive for extended periods of time, up to 3 to 4 hours with 15 minute breaks every 2 hours
--          Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
 
MENTAL ABILITIES
--          Good judgment to make appropriate decisions
--          Ability to learn and interpret laws pertaining to driving vehicles
--          Ability to communicate with staff and customers
--          Ability to control client behaviors and maintain order
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
--          Reports to Coordinator
 
POSITION CLASSIFICATION
--          Non-exempt
 
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE
--          Split shift- M-F, 5:30am-8:30am & 3:00pm-5:30pm
