September 3, 2023 Dear Hemet-San Jacinto Chamber members, We are happy to announce our monthly history meetings will be starting up again on the second Monday of each month after a break for the summer. Please join us for our first Hemet Heritage Foundation/Hemet Museum Meeting featuring “Aviation History in the Hemet-San Jacinto Valley” by historian & author Ken Graff on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm with doors opening at 6:00 pm. WE HAVE A NEW MEETING LOCATION: Our Hemet Heritage Foundation/Hemet Museum meeting will be held at a new location at Memorial Funeral Services, 1111 S. State St. in the shopping center at the SW corner of State & Stetson Ken Graff's presentation will cover events from the first balloon to arrive in 1898 and give rides to San Jacinto residents, the first airplane landing at the Hemet Stock Farm, and some history about all the early air strips and aviation pioneers that came from or passed through our valley. Ken has had a long career in aviation including crop dusting, firefighting, and preserving the history of Hemet’s Ryan Field story. His book “Mr. Ryan’s Field” will be available for sale at $25 with proceeds going to the Hemet Museum. Ryan Field’s rich history includes its years as a training base for Army Cadets who learned to fly there when it opened, as well as hundreds who worked there during the war years. In the decades since the war, Ryan Field has played a part in the lives of thousands more who either worked for, or supplied, the many businesses that got their start there, including the amazing history of crop dusting and firefighting airplanes. The meeting will include complimentary refreshments, a raffle, an update on Hemet Museum happenings and information on joining the Hemet Heritage Foundation.
